The Scheldemond International Chess Tournament

The sunniest chess tournament in the Netherlands – also in 2026!
A new name, a new playing hall, but otherwise the same format and virtually the same enthusiastic group of volunteers as in previous years! After 27 editions in the Atrium of HZ University of Applied Sciences, we are moving this year to the sports hall of Scheldemond College, a secondary school that is happy to provide space for top-level sport in all its forms.
Regular participants in Vlissingen already know: most rounds are played in the evening, and Vlissingen is the city with the highest average number of sunshine hours in the Netherlands. A perfect opportunity to combine playing in a chess tournament with a (beach) holiday on the Zeeland coast!
With all players competing in one large group, club players have the chance to face an International Master or Grandmaster, while ambitious players have the opportunity to achieve a title norm.
You can register via the Registration page. Early registrants pay a reduced entry fee! And as if inflation doesn’t exist in Zeeland: the entry fees are exactly the same as last year!
The results will be submitted to FIDE and the KNSB for rating processing.

The tournament location is the Scheldemond College, Wielingen building, Weyevlietplein 7-13, 4385 CH Vlissingen.
